Originally named the Jubilee Datejust, Rolex Datejust was introduced in 1945 for the company’s 40th Anniversary. It was a direct descendant of the Bubbleback and included a date function, which was placed at the 3 o’clock position on the dial. It was the first watch to show the date automatically and also the first to change the displayed date at exactly midnight. The Datejust was different than any other watch of that time. It has since become extremely well-known. The classic design of this particular watch resembles the style of the original Datejust. The date window is displayed at the 3-hour marker along with a magnifying Cyclops lens.
